Potential vs. Change

Potential-having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future.

Change- to make or become different. To transform.

One might say you need to harness the potential in order to change, or commit to the act of change in order to find your potential. Both work and I am convinced we all, more or less submit to either or... on a good day.

However there is one more element that I left out of the equation above. Work.

Work bridges the gap between potential and change. It keeps us occupied and focused on the goal (whatever it may be).
It is only after a period of work that you can honestly look back and say wow I've changed (fill in the blank) and I now realize how much potential I have.

Work is defined as an activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result.

Yet we don't always do what we need to do in order to build consistency in our lives. We let distractions creep in and next thing you know you are sitting on a couch 12 hours a day watching Jerry Springer. I can accept that it is not easy to keep motivation on the same level everyday, but if you don't try those goals get farther and farther away and well potential just gets swallowed up. Change also just goes in a completely different direction.

There will always be an excuse. We could all sit down and list valid excuses as to why we didn't commit to whatever it is we need to do for ourselves. But ultimately you must accept that if you don't fulfill it, who will? It is your dream, goal, endpoint so only you can make it happen.

I don't mean to sound hokie. I do it too, DAILY! But I try and that is all I can do. If I can't practice I'll read a music history chapter, work on some theory, or even try to figure out things in my head abt whatever the issue of the week is. I don't like to hear excuses from myself (I do try though) so I try to appease my inner drill sargent.

Plenty of people brag abt not reaching their goals because of one reason or another but they will say in the same breath how much potential they posses (or talent, ugh).

FYI, If you don't take care of your health it will begin to deteriorate, so in the same vein if you don't cultivate your potential it over time will dissipate.

So my tip for today is work at whatever makes you happy eventually you will begin to see change and then you will realize your true potential.
