PCA Cello Master Class with Bryan Jones

I think the kids would agree that this master class was very informative, but also entertaining.
I want to thank Mr. Jones for taking time out of his schedule to share with us the secrets of Baroque Historical Performance. Excerpts handed out were taken from Mary Cyr, " Performing Baroque Music".

Bryan W. Jones was born in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, where he also began his study of the oboe with Ruth Murray. He left Georgia for Winston-Salem, NC where he received his B.M. (Oboe Performance) at the North Carolina School of the Arts. While at NCSA he studied with John Ellis. Mr. Jones was awarded the M.M. degree (Historical Performance) at Boston University in 2005. While there he studied with baroque oboist Marc Schachman. His West Indian heritage led him to present an orchestrated version of the oratorio Jonah by Jamaican composer Samuel Felsted. In the 2006-2007 he will lead the Samuel Felsted Project in performances of the work in Boston, NYC and Philadelphia. Mr. Jones has performed as soloist with the BU Baroque Orchestra and in the oboe sections of Early Music New York, The Vox Consort (Boston), The Amherst Early Music Festival Academy Orchestra, New Trinity Baroque (Atlanta) and Collegium Musicum Bach (Mexico City) as well as various chamber groups. He has played under many esteemed conductors including Martin Pearlman, Andrew Lawrence-King, Frederick Renz, James Richman, and Predrag Gosta.

PCA Cello Master Class with David Gee

Tuesday the PCA cello students had their first master class with guest artist David Gee. The kids are getting better acquainted with their pieces and are beginning to start the musicality phase of their pieces. I was very proud of their performances, and openness with Mr. Gee. I hope that the experience was a good one for them also. Thank-you Mr. Carrion for helping to make this happen.

David Gee, cello is a graduate of Yale University where he studied as an Ellen Battel Stoeckel Scholar. While at Yale, Mr. Gee taught as an assistant of the world-renowned pedagogue, Aldo Parisot. During his post-Yale years, Mr. Gee taught at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, The University of Memphis, Coastal Carolina University, The Ithaca Violoncello Institute, The Conservatory of Granada (Spain) and throughout Andalucia, Spain in chamber music master class settings. Mr. Gee was co-principal cellist with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Granada in Granada, Spain for
several years before returning to the U.S. where he is an active performer as recitalist, soloist and orchestral musician. Mr. Gee plays a 19th century cello made by Antonius Guadagnini on long-term loan from the Holm Foundation.
