Teaching Experience
  • 2008-2009, Bloomington Montessori School, General Music Teacher, led the 6-9 class in general music once a week. I developed goals that instruct young children in composition, note reading, singing, and beginning instrumental study, by using elements of the Orff-Schulwerk, Suzuki, and Kodaly teaching methods.
  • 2009, The Indiana Young Winds, Clarinet Teacher, I instructed beginner clarinet students on development and practice of first year clarinet techniques. I also led weekly chamber music sectionals on small ensemble pieces as well as preparation for the large ensemble. The program commenced with a performance of a small chamber piece and large ensemble works.
  • 2008, 2009, The Fairview Project, Violin Teacher, Group lessons after school or during, (dependent on age) along with a performance for the school at the end of the semester. Lessons were based on the curriculum of the Indiana String Academy.
  • 2007- 2009, Indiana University, Associate Instructor, As a graduate student in the music education department I taught beginning string techniques to undergraduate students music education students focusing on a heterogeneous instrument environment. Some of the other classes I taught were fundamentals of music (school of education majors), and rehearsal techniques (music school education majors) in large band-based ensembles.
  • Fall 2005, Open Dream Ensemble, Teaching Artist; A performance art troupe whose mission is that of aesthetic education and to integrate arts-in-education programs in public schools. Residencies included specific arts-integration curriculum according to NC state standards. Residents collaborate along with classroom teachers to develop the best strategy for each class. A performance of an original show written, composed, and choreographed by members of the Open Dream Ensemble and collaborative performance of ODE members and students. This program is comprised of alumni from the North Carolina School of the Arts.
  • 2005 -2007, Palmetto Center for the Performing Arts (Magnet Program at Richland Northeast High School), Guest Teaching Artist; Responsible curriculum development activities, weekly cello lessons, monthly master classes, and preparing all students for recitals held at the end of each term. Performance responsibilities; student, and faculty recitals.
  • 2005, Tryon Fine Arts Center, Teaching Artist; Developed arts-integration curricula for K-5 children during a week long out-reach program.
  • 2004 -2007, Presbyterian College, Adjunct Cello Professor; I developed specific performance curricula supported by weekly cello lessons and rehearsals for PC Cello Choir. During my time at Presbyterian I founded the Presbyterian Cello Choir and gave several faculty recitals.
  • 2004 – 2005 Blythewood Middle School, Cello Section Coach; Aid to orchestra teacher with beginner cello class covering instruction in cello technique, and extra music rehearsals.
  • 2005-2005 Carolina String Academy, Cello Teacher; Responsible for weekly cello lessons with students ranging in age from 16, to adult.
  • Summer 2004, French Woods Performing Arts Festival, Cello Teacher; Responsible for weekly cello lessons, curriculum building, performance with students in orchestral, and musical theatre settings.
  • 2003-2004, The Urban School of San Francisco, Chamber Coach; Responsible for selection of music for an ensemble that included; two cellists, two violinists, two flutists, and one pianist. Weekly chamber coaching and preparation each semester for recitals.
